For 250 miles the Mississippi River rambles south along Wisconsin 's western border. Weaving through backwater sloughs and sandbar archipelagos, past soaring limestone bluffs and quaint river towns, the river is a wide blue thread in the fabric of Wisconsin . It is recreation. It is commerce. It is transportation and ecology, architecture and history. It anchors our economy and buoys our collective spirit.
It is today as it has been since the dawn of time – quite magical.
